Combat Motor's 2022 Bespoke Motorcycles - Adventure Rider

You may have heard of Combat Motors, a bespoke and costly V-twin motorcycles manufacturer. However, if you are not familiar with the company, there’s some interesting history about its genesis.  Combat Motors is the latest iteration of the former Confederate Motorcycle Company.

In 2018, Combat Motors acquired the intellectual property rights and designs of the original Confederate Motorcycle Company. Venture capitalist Ernest Lee then began reviving the company and selling its high-end, powerful, large displacement, bespoke, V-twin machines. Agricultural Casting Parts Suppliers

But the name Confederate Motorcycle Company came with baggage, and Lee changed the company’s name to Combat Motors in 2020. Still, Lee insists that the new brand continues the tradition that Confederate Motors established in 1991.

And with Combat Motors’ announcement of its 2022 model lineup, it seems that Combat is indeed still producing machines in the tradition of its previous owners.

Combat Motors’ manufacturing is an on-demand operation.  They maintain a variety of manufacturing partners for each of the Combat Motors models.  They, in turn, produce components on-demand. The CNC milling, hand-cut, and sewn leathers result from “thousands of man and machine hours of work.” CNC machined, hand-assembled parts for Combat Motors’ motorcycles. Photo: Combat Motors

With the necessary parts on hand, each new Combat Motors motorcycle is hand-assembled and tested at the company’s Birmingham, Alabama facility.  Techs with more than 15 years of experience assemble each machine. If the owner desires, these same techs can perform service to the bikes if they are returned to Combat HQ. 2022 Model lineup

For 2022, Combat Motors will be producing four different bikes. Taken together, the models do have some similarities. Each uses a CX4 6061 aluminum frame, S&S X-Wedge 117ci or 132ci engines, BST wheels, RaceTech suspension, Beringer brakes, Motogadget electronics, and Bandit Machine Works dry clutches. Wraith

First up is the Wraith. It generally retains its original silhouette from its days as a Confederate Motorcycle. It continues with a redesigned girder front fork, the model’s signature styling element.

The bike still uses an aluminum monocoque machined from solid military-grade billet blocks. Incorporated into the frame is a curved backbone that holds the machine’s fuel. You’ll always know how much fuel you have left since the fuel tank sports clear panels that reveal the fuel level.

The Wraith also still carries the large and muscular-looking S&S X-Wedge engine displacing 2,163cc (132ci). It offers a claimed 140 bhp and 160 lb-ft of torque. The Wraith. Photo: Combat Motors

Suspension is handled by an adjustable double wishbone monoshock front suspension and an adjustable cantilever shock at the rear. Changes to the original Wraith are a redesigned airbox, a larger fuel tank, and a twin-plate throttle body. All up, the Wraith weighs in at a claimed 560 pounds wet.

If you want a Wraith, you’ll have to hand over $155,000 for its raw aluminum version. There’s also a black anodized Knight Wraith which can be had for an additional $10,000. Bomber

While the Bomber may be the “newest” model in the Combat Motors lineup, it is an evolution of Confederates’ original FA-13 Bomber. For 2022, there’s a new, more relaxed seat angle and forward foot controls.

It too, gets a monocoque frame carved from an aluminum billet. Powering the bike is the 2,163cc (132ci) air-cooled S&S V-twin engine with a claimed 120hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. Combat Motors says the bike has a top speed of 160 mph. If that’s true, you will have to hold on tight to the naked machine. The Bomber. Photo: Combat Motors

The Bomber also features a fully adjustable double-wishbone monoshock front suspension mated to a 19-inch carbon wheel. At the rear, you will find a cantilever monoshock attached to a 17-inch carbon hoop.

The Bomber comes in at $125,000 for the raw aluminum version and $130,000 for the black version. P-51 Fighter

There are not many changes to the P-51 Fighter this year. Instead, the changes are pretty detail-oriented, with a revised carbon fiber belly pan, new graphic elements on the fuel tank, and a digital speedometer that is now built into the handlebar mount.

Powering the P-51 is a 2,163cc (132ci) engine making a claimed 120hp and 120 lb-ft of torque. Again, Combat Motors claims a top speed of over 160 mph. The P-51 Fighter. Photo: Combat Motors

You can also get the P-51 Fighter with an optional, smaller 117ci engine. Unfortunately, Combat does not say how much that change affects the bike’s price.

Pricing starts at $100,000 for the raw aluminum version. If you’d like the blacked-out Black Flag version, you’ll have to add $5,000 to the pot. F-117 Fighter

The least expensive motorcycle in Combat Motor’s lineup is the F-117 Fighter model. It carries the smaller 1,917cc (117ci) S&S V-twin engine, which, interestingly, makes a claimed 120 hp and 120 lb-ft of torque—that’s the same as the P-51 Fighter’s power output. However, claimed top speed drops to 120 mph on the F-117 Fighter. Combat says that this lower-priced model attempts to balance raw beauty and aggression. The F-117 Fighter. Photo: Combat Motors

Like its stablemates, you can get the F-117 Fighter in raw aluminum for $85,000. If you would like the blacked-out model, it will set you back $90,000.

Purchasing a bespoke motorcycle is never cheap.  You have to really value what each bike offers before making such a purchasing decision. However, if you decide to purchase a Combat Motors motorcycle, they will deliver it to your home within the continental US.
